Benefits of solar battery installation
Do solar panels work at night? No they dont, but you can harness your excess unused solar power generated during the day and use it at night, with a solar battery installation. There are multiple benefits to solar battery installation.
- Cut your power bills and save money
- Reduce your footprint and go green
- Backup power during blackouts
- Monitor solar generation and control usage
- Independence from grid power
- Increase your property value
Being able to access and utilise more of your solar means you can save money by using less grid-generated power, and less reliance on the grid.
Reliable backup power
Utilise your stored, free solar power during blackouts with a solar battery installation. Eliminate the inconveniences associated with power interruptions and continue to run your fridge, TV, computer and essential powered appliances as normal (especially important if you work from home).
Independence from the grid
If a self-sufficient off-grid lifestyle is your thing, a solar battery installation can provide complete independence from the grid. We’re passionate about solar and we would be pleased to recommend a solar battery installation that’s suitable for your new or existing off-grid setup.
Tailor your usage with online monitoring
Our team can even help you set up online monitoring so you can get the most out of your new solar system and lower your bills even further.
Monitor the power-generation of your solar panels via your smartphone and adjust and stage your usage patterns to use your free solar power when it’s most available. Alternate between solar and grid-generated power during on/off-peak times so you are using grid-power when it’s cheapest and take advantage of feed-in tariffs when they are highest (note: availability of online monitoring is system setup and model dependent).
Types of solar batteries
There are a variety of solar battery types on the market including lead-acid solar batteries and the newer (and most popular) lithium-ion batteries (such as the Tesla Powerwall). Other newer technologies include sodium nickel chloride solar batteries and ‘flow’ solar batteries (zinc-bromide). Some battery types can be less bulky (newer technologies) and there are varying user features, environmental and safety benefits.
In Australia, the typical solar battery capacity for a residential solar system is generally around 5-15 kilowatt-hours (kWh). For small homes with lower energy usage, a 5 to 10 kWh battery is usually sufficient. Solar batteries with a 10-15 kWh capacity typically suit larger homes with 3-phase solar systems. ProSolar can incorporate battery storage that is suitable for the size of your solar system and adequate to support your energy needs and the amount of power storage you require.
Brands we work with
We believe in quality and delivering high-performing solar systems that last. That’s why we use only trusted suppliers and brands with well-designed and built solar batteries that have a proven track record for reliability, durability and performance. Here’s some of the brands we work with.
It definitely pays to invest in quality batteries for durability and longevity. That goes for all your appliances, parts and accessories too!
The process for solar battery installation
As experienced, qualified and accredited solar installers, there are many factors that we take into account when designing your solar battery installation and recommending the best solar battery for your needs.
- Size of your solar system
- Your power needs
- Suitable mounting location
- Your budget
Solar batteries can easily be incorporated into the design of your new or existing solar system. If you are upgrading, ProSolar can review your existing system to determine the best battery type and brand (including battery capacity, the number of batteries and features) to meet your needs based on your current usage and the amount of excess solar power you are generating. Solar batteries are best placed in an indoor location such as on the inside wall of your garage. They can also be placed outside, but require adequate protection from the weather.
Solar battery installation cost
The cost for solar battery installation depends on the battery type, size and design of your solar system. It also depends on the environmental characteristics of the installation location and the amount of additional electrical work which may be required (such as minor switchboard upgrades or rewiring).
Everyone’s power needs and requirements are unique and we will provide specific recommendations based on your individual scenario. Ongoing support for solar battery installation
Your solar battery installation should be checked annually as part of scheduled maintenance for your solar system. To preserve your solar investment and keep it performing at its best, you should have it checked and maintained by a Clean Energy Council Accredited Designer and Installer. A solar battery check includes cleaning and tightening battery connections (to ensure good electrical contact and prevent corrosion), environmental inspection and performance testing (including monitoring charge levels, voltage and capacity).
At ProSolar we offer ongoing support for every solar and solar battery installation and we’re only a phone call away if you need solar maintenance, tips or expert advice.
